Elevator Maintenance: Electric Traction

 

 

Description

This course covers the operation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and corrective maintenance of electric traction elevators, including interpretation and reading of schematics and wiring diagrams with emphasis on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting diagnostics procedures.  Interpretation and application of the Elevator Safety Code ANSI A17.1 and safe working practices will also be covered.

 

Learning Outcome

 Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

  • Understand of codes, standards and elevator pits.
  • Understand of hoistways and cars equipment.
  • Understand of doors, operators, machine rooms and machinery spaces.
  • Understand of worm gear elevator machines and elevator ropes.
  • Understand of overspeed govenors, car and counterweight safeties.
  • Understand of releasing passengers from stalled elevators.
  • Understand of print reading, flowcharting and troubleshooting.

 

Target Audience

This course is intended for personnel who are assigned or scheduled to be assigned to perform preventive maintenance on elevators, or supervisors of elevator maintenance.

 

Course Completion Requirements

Successful completion of this course requires 40-hours of attendance, completion of all guided labs and achieving a 70% or greater score on the combined average of 2 lab tests and 2 written exams.
