Oklahoma Sooners National Championships.Winning is the hallmark of the University of Oklahoma sports teams. At present, they are the proud owners of 26 national championships in both men’s and women’s sports. In addition, they have won more than 230 team conference titles and over 700 All-Americans. In 2008, OU’s men's gymnastics took home its 8th national title.
Oklahoma Sooners Football.The Sooners football squad, led by head coach Bob Stoops, came away with the program's seventh title by defeating Florida State in the Orange Bowl in 2000, the year they went undefeated. The six other football crowns came under Bud Wilkinson in 1950, 1955, and 1956, and Barry Switzer in 1974, 1975 and 1985. Since 2000, the Sooners have won six Big 12 Conference Championships, compiling an incredible 102 victories, which no other team came close to matching. [Top]
Oklahoma Sooners Baseball.In 1994, the Oklahoma Sooners baseball team took home the national title. It was an incredible tournament from beginning to end. The Sooners didn’t lose one game in either the regional tournament in Austin, Texas, or the eight-team double elimination World Series. Amazingly, Oklahoma trailed in only one of the 72 innings they played in the NCAA Tournament. The Sooners finished the series as the top hitting team with a combined .327 average. Their pitching was no less impressive as the staff compiled a 2.37 ERA. Defensively, they ranked second after making only five errors.
Oklahoma Sooners Softball. History was made in 2000 when the University of Oklahoma won its first softball national championship by beating UCLA in the Women’s College World Series. It was the first title ever by a women’s team in University of Oklahoma history. The OU coaching staff, led by Patty Gasso, was named the Division I National Coaching Staff of the Year while three players were honored with spots on the Women’s College World Series All-Tournament team. The championship capped a season in which the Sooners won 66 games, the most ever by an OU softball team.
