Historic and trendy, Downtown OKC is a thriving crossroads of live music, culture, restaurants, shopping, nightlife, and sports. The ever-beating heart of all this fun is Bricktown Entertainment District on the east side. Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark is home to the Oklahoma City RedHawks minor league baseball team, while the streets are lined with colorful stores, delicious dining, beautiful gardens, museums, and theaters, all framed by historic brick buildings. Bricktown was originally a rail-based warehouse disctrict. After the Great Depression, people began leaving Bricktown in droves, until it became a blight of abandoned buildings. In the 1990s, Mayor Ron Norick led a push to revitalize the area, laying the foundation for the hip OKC Downtown of today.

Home of the Oklahoma City RedHawks

Dating back to 1962, the RedHawks (formerly the 89ers) have been an OKC minor league baseball staple, and the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. Games take place regularly at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

  • What is there to do in Bricktown?

Tons! You can catch a RedHawks game with the locals, dine at an array of charming restaurants, grab a drink at the many hip bars, shop the unique boutiques lining the streets, catch a movie, dance at club, or go to a show. Chesapeake Energy Arena hosts the OKC Thunder NBA team as well, with regular concerts from the likes of Keith Urban, Rihanna, and John Mayer. For intrigue and adventure, stop by the American Banjo Museum, OKC Zoo, or Rocktown Climbing Gym.
  • Oklahoma City Thunder

Formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics, the team rebranded itself and moved to Oklahoma city in 2008. Since they moved, they have proved to be a formidable foe in the Western Conference and have reached to playoffs regularly since 2010. Their star player, Kevin Durant has proven to be a reliable scorer and even has the NBA scoring leader for 2010, 2011, and 2012 seasons.
  • What’s the best way to get around town?

Rent a Spokie! A popular solution to traffic congestion and parking, this new bike-sharing program is changing the way Oklahomans get around town. Available 6am-2am, you can join for a day ($5), a month ($20), or a year ($75). Riders get unlimited 30-minute rides for the duration, with $2 charges each additional half-hour, and bikes can be returned to any Spokies kiosk, 24 hours a day.
