The University of Oklahoma Football & Academics

Home of the Sooners famous football team, OU is also a renowned university for academics, associates through doctoral degrees. The history of our neighbor college, just 3 miles from NCED Conference Center and Hotel, dates all the way back to 1890. Oklahoma University had 100 students and 4 faculty by 1895, and today hosts a student body of more than 30,000. Nearly 3-times that number of loyal fans frequent OU football games every game, making it a destination for the entire region.

  • Who are the university’s mascots?

    There are 2 mascot horses that accompany the Sooner Schooner Conestoga, modeled after a covered wagon like those used by early Oklahoma settlers. While the Schooner itself is the central mascot, the costumed horses are named Boomer and Sooner, and they get the crowd pumped!
  • When was the University of Oklahoma founded?

    The school was originally founded in 1890, a full 17 years before Oklahoma was officially granted statehood.
